Am sitting exhausted by the fire having spent the day at Scotland’s SECOND ever Yay (Young Adult) Book Festival in Cumbernauld Theatre. The little theatre in the woods (dates back to 1800s) hosted a great line-up of authors in a reading relay, including Elizabeth Wein and Estelle Maskame. 12 schools from across Scotland got to speak to authors close-up, ask them questions and be inspired.
I was in the main auditorium, miked up and sweltering hot in my best frock, where I shared secrets about how I became a writer and fell in love with Scottish history. The audience asked insightful questions and were so keen. The great thing about the day was that no two authors are the same – we’re such a varied bunch – we all write different kinds of books, and the pupils got to see this. Oh… and another great thing was that they had macaroons, and I think I ate them all.
